Motorway studs are small reflective devices positioned between lanes and along the edges of motorways. They help drivers maintain lane discipline, provide guidance, and enhance safety by making the road layout clearer in the dark or in adverse weather conditions.
White studs mark the lanes or the middle of the road. Red studs mark the left edge of the road. Amber studs mark the central reservation of a dual carriageway or motorway. Green studs mark the edge of the main carriageway at lay-bys and slip roads.
Road-mounted yellow cat's eyes mark road works (Germany) In almost all European countries, cat eye road studs will include reflective lenses of some kind. By contrast to the UK where use of cat's eyes is widespread, in Continental Europe, cat's eyes are rarely used as a permanent fixture.

The standard requirements of road studs are divided in the 3 categories-1. Construction Requirement. The road stud shall be manufactured of materials with adequate chemical, water, and UV resistance. The height and width of the road stud shall not exceed 20.3 mm (0.80 in.) and 130 mm (5.1 in.) respectively.
